Pink and Green Thursday: Winging It

Yesterday marked the fifteenth week of my pregnancy, and while there's still a lot of time left before our little one arrives, Mark and I have been making some big decisions.  The biggest - we have decided to be surprised and not find out our baby's gender.  This goes against all of my crazy type A planner tendencies, but I have to say, I am really excited.  I thought it would make me crazy because there is not much in my life that I leave to chance, I mean when I plan a trip, I schedule "spontaneous time" on our itinerary.  But there is something about that moment where we will hear the doctor say "it's a..."  that I think will be just so joyous!  So for the first time in my life, I think I'm going to enjoy winging it.

If you've had a baby, did you choose to find out?  If not, would you want to?

  1. I'm not pregnant, nor have I ever been, but I think I'd want to be surprised as well. I think it'd be extra exciting day of :)

Love these pics, especially the eye...and the cupcake, of course!

  3. Jen, First of all, CONGRATS to you amd Mark on this wonderful news. You are going to be such a wonderful mommy! What a lucky little person you have in your tummy right now. :) We did not find out with our first two, (Girl, Annbella 4.5, and boy Callum, 3.5) and I have to say that I was sort of tin the same boat as you. I thought for sure I would find out the gender, but once the opportunity presented itself, something inside of both Craig and I just wanted to be surprised. It was magical...both times! With our littlest guy, Mack, 1.5, we decided to go ahead and find out b/c we knew he was going to be our last and wanted to experience the pregnancy experience both ways. It was so fun to try both and I can promise you all of your suspicions are correct and that moment just after delivery makes it all worthwhile. Here's to a happy and healthy rest of your pregnancy!!

  6. Congrats again! I found out all 3 times at 20 weeks. I couldn't take the suspense any more. Waiting for 1/2 of 9 months is still waiting. I wanted to be able to plan, and was glad that I knew what to expect in the l&d room. (In all honesty, I wanted a girl first, a girl second and a boy third, and ended up with the opposite - boy, boy, girl! Knowing in advance gave me a chance to come to terms with not getting my way! haha!) But I am a neurotic planner, and needed to have everything set before I gave birth. Kuddos on keeping it a surprise.

And a little warning - don't buy a lot of green and yellow clothes - you'll be surprised how it will only take one onlooker mis-guessing your baby's gender for you to only want to dress them in pink or blue from then on!

Enjoy this magical journey! It will fly by!

  7. Congrats on your pregnancy. I have been pregnant twice and we found out both times what we were having. Two girls! I have several friends who have decided not to find out and it has been the most wonderful experience for them.

  9. What a lovely, pretty post!! And I love the play on words, "winging it"!
Even though I have not had a child, I don't think I would want to know. Winging it in that situation sounds good to me.

  11. Okay, first of all I'm so excited that you are an LA girl because I am, too!! Us Louisiana bloggers are few and far between!! Hooray!!! : )

Congrats on your pregnancy!! I haven't had kids yet, but I'd looooove to be surprised. However, I'm a type A like you, so I don't know what will actually happen. Are you going to do a neutral nursery or just wait?
