Pink and Green Thursday: All That Glitters

Many of you already know this from my posts, but I ride in a Mardi Gras parade with the Krewe of Muses.  In exactly six months, I will be riding for my sixth year.  Each year, I assume that the excitement and anticipation of riding will wear off, and it absolutely never does!  Last night, we got an email from our float lieutenant that this year we'll be on Float 19.  Wooooohoooo!!!  And I got an email from my dear friend Amy that she's been added to our float.  I'm so excited to have her on board!

You may think six months is a bit early to gear up for the big ride, but you wouldn't believe how much there is to be done before then!  We have luncheons to attend and headdresses to make and most important of all - we have shoes to glitter!!  Remember last year how I was up to my neck in glitter - HERE?  The signature throw (Mardi Gras talk for the trinkets and beads tossed to the crowd) is our glittered shoes.  You would not believe how excited people get when they see one of these sparklers projected from our float!  Holy cow - you'd think we were throwing gold!

In our house the process of making these one of a kind treasures has already begun.  But, instead of throwing this pair of boots in the parade, I'll be wearing them to the Saints home opener.  I made them for the playoff games last year, but after a bit too much fun in them, they had lost their sparkle.

So a little tacky glue, some Martha Stewart extra fine glitter, and a bolt of gold trim later, and here they are.  Ready for gameday!  I'm working on bigger, fluffier tassles tonight!!!

Here some fabulous pink and green photos that sparkle and shine!

Don't forget, you can visit Trish at Pink Preppy Lilly Lover for more Pink and Green Thursday posts!

  12. You're not the only one getting ready to glitter! I'll be on float 10 with my pals this year - and I'm on a mission to get everything done before baby Claire arrives in 2 months! Will you make the luncheon? Will have to have a shoe decorating party once you're back in NOLA - I'll even recruit Beth to help us! ;-)

  14. The boots are fabulous! I have never been to Mardi Gras, in 2003 I was there the week before, but some day I hope to be able to go. Until then we throw our own Fat Tuesday party and I keep Rockin Sidney And Buckwheat Zydeco on my ipod at all times!
